McLaren MP4-30 driveability key to strong Monaco result - Honda

(McLaren-Honda)

McLaren engine partner Honda have confirmed that the Woking based outfits car performance in Monaco will be key to whether the team have a good or a bad result in Monaco on Sunday.

The Woking based outfit have endured an extremely difficult start to their new partnership with Honda however the team and the Japanese manufacturer are absolutely convinced that they can turn things around this season.

McLaren Honda’s Fernando Alonso suffered a brake failure last time out in Spain and this resulted in a DNF much to the disappointment of the local fans while Jenson Button finished the race one lap down on race winner Nico Rosberg. Button described the MP4-30 as almost completely undriveable in the opening thirty laps of the Spanish Grand Prix saying that it was one of the scariest races of his Formula One career.

During testing at the Barcelona Circuit De Catalunya last week Button reported that the car was much better to drive and he went on to finish the test in fourth place.

Honda’s Yasuhisa Arai stated that in Monaco there is a very fine line between success and failure due to the street circuit layout of corners a mix of fast and slow speed as well as a number of high speed straights and heavy braking zones particularly into the chicane at the swimming pool as the cars come out of the tunnel so brake set balance is going to be key.
